Salvita Salim De Corte is a Bali-born artist and actor of Indonesian, German, and Indian heritage. Raised in a profoundly creative environment by artist parents, she turned to painting as an act of catharsis following the passing of her father — himself a painter — inheriting his studio along with the brushes and blank canvases he left behind.
Since then, De Corte has embraced painting as a way to explore human relationships and the emotions they evoke. Her portraits and intertwined figures emerge as composites of people who have marked different stages of her life, their forms infused with and abstracted by the feelings that arise in a liminal, meditative state of creation.
These emotions find resonance in her distinctive color language. The works presented in Neighbor reflect her recent experiments with natural indigo pigments — signaling a contemplative new chapter in her practice, a personal blue period.
