About the Item

"Pushed Boundaries" Acrylic on canvas. 48 x 48" 2019 Sara Walton orchestrates a symphony of color that transcends mere visual aesthetics, delving deep into the realm of emotion and perception. Her canvases, often comprised of only a few different hues, are masterstrokes of restraint and nuance, inviting viewers into a contemplative journey through the language of color. With an unparalleled command of color theory, Walton navigates the subtle interplay between hues, values, and saturation, creating compositions that pulsate with quiet intensity. Each color choice imbued with meaning, as she seeks to distill the essence of her subject matter to its purest form. With a historical view, Walton looks to build on the language of color forged by greats such as Ellsworth Kelly Josef Albers and Carmen Herrera. In Walton's hands, color becomes a spectrum of feelings from serenity to introspection. Her palette, though restrained, is rich with complexity, inviting viewers to lose themselves in its depths and uncover new nuances with each viewing. But perhaps most striking is Walton's ability to harness the power of negative space, using it not as a void to be filled, but as an integral component of her compositions. Through the careful manipulation of space and color, she creates a sense of balance and harmony that is at once soothing and invigorating. In essence, Sara Walton's work transcends the confines of traditional painting, offering viewers a glimpse into the ineffable beauty of the human experience through the language of color.

"Jagged Edge" Red and Black Geometric Abstract Painting
By Mark Flood

Geometric abstract contemporary acrylic painting by Houston, TX artist Mark Flood. The piece depicts geometric blocks of shapes in a striking red-and-black contrast. The artist signed the piece on the back of the canvas. Artist Biography: Mark Flood is a contemporary American artist. Working in an irreverent interdisciplinary practice, Flood’s work strives to critique society, specifically targeting the art market and its institutions. Among his best-known works is his Lace Paintings series, consisting of technically inventive and delicate compositions. For these works, Flood lays down several overlapping layers of paint onto canvas, creating the illusion of intricately detailed lace. Born in 1957 in Houston, TX, he went on to attend Rice University in Houston and do work throughout the 1970s while playing in the punk band Culturcide in his native Houston. Getting his start designing concert posters and flyers, Flood credits Joseph Cornell as an inspiration for his approach to collage and appropriation. He has exhibited with Zach Feuer gallery in New York, and his work can be found in the collections of the Modern Art Museum of Forth Worth, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Menil Collection...
