About the Item
Sergio Valenzuela “Valenz” is a contemporary Guatemalan artist who tells stories with everyday objects, primarily expressing them with graphite and acrylic on canvas. His medium to large abstract artworks prominently feature elements such as chairs, ladders, and beds. These recognizable structures serve as a way for the artist to signify the opportunities, growth and dreams we all carry as individuals.
This 30 inch tall by 62 inch wide large horizontal yellow artwork is wired and ready to hang. The sides of this original artwork are painted as a continuation of the front, and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork. We offer free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable global shipping is available. A certificate of authenticity is included.
Valenz was born in Guatemala in 1970. He graduated from Universidad Galileo de Guatemala with a major in Communications with a concentration in Education. He is a graphic designer, creative director, publicist, as well as a professor, teaching university courses on creativity, advertising, and graphic design at his alma mater.
His first group show was at the Bienal de Arte Paiz, Guatemala City, in 1992. Since that time Valenz’ wall art has been featured in over eighty group shows and thirty solo exhibitions in South America and around the world. Among numerous recognitions and awards he was selected as the winner of the “Young Artist” award in 2005, and granted a scholarship to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Valen. His works are exhibited in the French Allegiance of Guatemala, Forma Museum of El Salvador, private collections in Guatemala, Central America, Europe, Mexico, and the United States of America.
Valenz incorporates everyday objects in his mixed-media artworks. “By using elements such as chairs, ladders, beds, monocycles, trapeze artists, swings, machines… it is a way of telling stories about life. The chairs signify, according to the context, opportunities and the patience required for them to step into our lives. The ladders represent our desire to climb, to continue our personal growth. Beds represent periods when we sleep and dream, things we cannot share with anyone else. Playful characters are representative of the uniqueness and singularity of each of the moments that we experience throughout our lifetimes, and the game that life is. Painting is my life.”
Valenz uses a graphite pencil as an instrument that reiterates messages across his works. Proposals surge from previous ideas and views, and are redrawn over and over on translucent papers, which offer us the opportunity to construct in our minds the storyline of his works and interpret what their meaning is. When combined with his playful figures, they create systems where they interact in an all-encompassing environment. His figures represent the uniqueness of our experience. The less permanent nature of pencil allows him to continually rework his compositions until his distinctly illustrated figures begin take on a life of their own. These events occur within the walls of certain living spaces, which nevertheless are part of a greater interconnected system.

Del Amo - Figurative Surrealist Portrait Landscape Paintings on Exposed Wood
By Eddy Lee
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Eddy Lee’s figurative surrealist portrait paintings on exposed wood depict emotive sirens who evoke a sense of mystery and seductiveness. His original artworks combine geometric elements with innocent women portraits seeking to trigger emotions, rather than communicating specific explanations. He reconciles the unconscious with rational life, exploring the power of dreams, embracing automatism, and freeing his subjects from the constraints of conscious thought.
This colorful, intriguing portrait is painted with acrylic and gouache on a hand-built cradled wood panel. This one-of-a-kind original artwork is 48 inches high by 36 inches wide and is signed by the artist on the back. It is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique work.
Originally from Seattle, Washington, Eddy Lee relocated to Los Angeles in late 2012 to pursue a full-time career as a fine artist. He started his career on the Venice Beach Boardwalk and quickly gained a large following across the United States with exhibitions in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
