In Portuguese, the word ‘Saudade’ means ‘missing’ and conveys a nostalgic longing for an absent place or person. The emotion in this abstract painting by Montreal-based artist Shireen Kamran is expressed through calligraphic lines and bold colour choices--Prussian Blue, ochre, and deep red.

She received a BSc. degree from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan and a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal. Her work is held in private collections in Canada and abroad. Shireen Kamran
Shireen Kamran creates lyrical and dramatic works reflecting restless mobility, a sensitivity to cultural displacement, and a memory of people and places. Her abstract layered forms may bring to mind silhouetted architecture, minarets and towers. Kamran's titles refer to shared layers and lineages of human experience. Kamran received a B.Sc. degree from the University of Peshawer and a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal.
