About the painting:
Summer Bloom series began in 2022, which Shizico Yi celebrates the season by painting en plein air in her garden, years later, she continues to create her own landscape and herbaceous boarders to inspire her artworks and find healing in the process of painting and gardening.
In this series, colour becomes the primary device for emotion, rather than reflecting the literal hues of the landscape. By using colour this way, Shizico heightens her sensitivity to mood and the vision within her mind's eye, moving beyond the habitual matching of colours to reality.
This major shift allows her to explore the interplay of light and shadow in a new unique way, emphasizing the negative and positive spaces between the flowers and the landscape/skylines around them and the mood of the moments.
These imaginative colours give her landscapes a touch of magical aura in this series of landscapes; a testament to her imagination, bold and always evolving techniques and the profound inspiration she draws from her natural surroundings especially her own gardens where she grows plants and re-makes her very own landscape.
About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi is a UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
