About the Item
2024, Shizico Yi takes on an innovative project she named it "The Weaver," inspired by the heritage of family's Tartan, the rich lineage and history of the Clan. Within the patterns of family Tartan, Shizico weaves flora Camellias and the timeless essence of Tartan into a dance of the abstraction and realism. Camellias, known for their delicate and luxurious blooms, emerge around Christmas and persist through into the early spring, heralding the vibrant colours in the mist of wintery weather. Willow's catkins are the earliest coming into blooms in the early spring, both plants are the welcoming sight in after the cold winter.
Through her artistry, Shizico incorporates the Tartan motifs beneath layers of vibrant paints, seamlessly blending her signature Japanese woodblock print style, weaving memories of the past ( the tartans) with the vivid reality of the present ( the floras ).
The painting becomes a harmonious visual symphony where the past and present converge like a duet of abstract and realism on the canvas amplifies Shizico's artistic visual musical; "The Weaver" inviting viewers into a world where memory and present interweaving in a mesmerizing display of creativity.

Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
