"Emotional freedom is portrayed by the parallel placement of the red and blue shapes together with the space between them," states artist Shyun Song. "The yellow background signifies the emotional field around them."Shyun explains of her clean, minimalist abstracts, "As an intense observer, I am interested in mythology and psychology. Whenever I come across a concept that sums up an element of psychology, I start sketching. I use geometric shapes and lines which I have found versatile in illustrating abstract concepts. When I transfer the sketch to a canvas, I still improvise and make specific color choices until I feel satisfied. Since my paintings begin with intangible concepts, I take the title of each painting as seriously as the aesthetic value of the piece. I believe that titles which resonate with our universal experience in life can create a deep human connection between an artist and the viewer."
About the Artist
Painting is not merely an aesthetic endeavor for Shyun Song, but also an existential one. Her art matches aspects of geometric shapes to express meaning. The starting point of her creation is a definite subject which derives from her intuition and instinct. She then aims to capture the human experience, both positive and negative. Shyun has a habit of mentally editing whatever she sees to her visual satisfaction.
