In this unique painting "Clouds Woven in Purple" by the artist Skadi Engeln, white clouds pass by and obscure the sky, a hint at the depth of the infinite universe that remains hidden from us here. Delicate lines and stripes traverse and weave through the sky, giving the work a unique dimension. This artwork is part of the ongoing series "Woven Landscapes" or "Distorted Images," where landscapes appear veiled by a curtain, a veil, lines, or stripes. These visual elements allude to the contemporary perception of the world through modern media and its flaws.
In the spring of 2011, the artist began "disturbing her landscapes." The nuclear accident in Fukushima fundamentally changed her painterly view of the world. The landscapes that serve as the starting point for her work – such as Berry, the Uckermark, the sea, and others – have not lost any of their beauty. Nevertheless, a virulent conflict caused by humans is inscribed in them, which is expressed in her works.
This work is an impressive example of this style, depicting both the natural beauty of the landscapes and the deep conflicts caused by humans. The combination of traditional painting techniques and modern thematic approaches makes this painting a special highlight of any art collection.
