SL Baker
Community, Abstract Expressionist and Social Commentary by Female Artist

2010

About the Item

COMMUNITY is an acrylic on canvas social commentary and abstract painting by American, female artist SL Baker. The scratches on COMMUNITY are intentional and were made using a crumpled sheet of copper. There is belief that the metal offers positivity and goodness. Community is inherently good, capable of positive change. Signed "SLB" front lower right. This artwork includes a certificate of authenticity issued by the artist. The images that appear on SL Baker's canvases are a confluence of mindfulness studies and social concern. Working mostly in acrylic and without the use of brushes, Baker paints with her hands. The paintings reference a world view and give a nod to Buddhist practice. The work seems a spiritual query. Her paintings are exhibited in solo, group, and juried shows throughout the Northeastern United States. SL Baker was born in Princeton, NJ and has been a life-long resident of the local NJ and PA area. She was a public school educator for thirty years and has been a self-employed artist for two decades. Baker is also a published poet and lyricist.

    Located in Doylestown, PA
"Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind XV " is a 40 x 40 inches, original, abstract landscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is a gallery wrapped canvas, signed "Lachman" in the lower left. It is part of the artist's series "Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind". The artist puts his thumb upon the pulse of life and records it. In that mystical beat lies the unknown, and he would but make it known. Being both, innovator and spectator, he exists as an intrinsic part of that rhythm. Each painting begins with a premise, and I rarely use the same one twice. It is based on what I see and what I am feeling at that moment. I do not think that painting is about technique. It is about a particular perception of the world around us. The premise creates the periphery of my intent. It is a limitation that gives birth to the creative forces within. - Al Lachman Born in 1936 in the Bronx, NY, Alan Lachman...
