SL Baker
Mindfulness, Abstract Expressionist and Social Commentary by Female Artist

2010

About the Item

MINDFULNESS is an acrylic on canvas social commentary and abstract painting by American, female artist SL Baker. "Mindfulness" was born in a dream. As with most works, I do not remember painting it. It might speak of stillness and, perhaps, a wish for a luminous perspective. I like the idea of remembering to pay attention to things just as they are. The 30 x 24 inches canvas is signed "SLB" front lower right. This artwork includes a certificate of authenticity issued by the artist. The images that appear on SL Baker's canvases are a confluence of mindfulness studies and social concern. Working mostly in acrylic and without the use of brushes, Baker paints with her hands. The paintings reference a world view and give a nod to Buddhist practice. The work seems a spiritual query. Her paintings are exhibited in solo, group, and juried shows throughout the Northeastern United States. SL Baker was born in Princeton, NJ and has been a life-long resident of the local NJ and PA area. She was a public school educator for thirty years and has been a self-employed artist for two decades. Baker is also a published poet and lyricist.

    Located in Doylestown, PA
"Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind XV " is a 40 x 40 inches, original, abstract landscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is a gallery wrapped canvas, signed "Lachman" in the lower left. It is part of the artist's series "Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind". The artist puts his thumb upon the pulse of life and records it. In that mystical beat lies the unknown, and he would but make it known. Being both, innovator and spectator, he exists as an intrinsic part of that rhythm. Each painting begins with a premise, and I rarely use the same one twice. It is based on what I see and what I am feeling at that moment. I do not think that painting is about technique. It is about a particular perception of the world around us. The premise creates the periphery of my intent. It is a limitation that gives birth to the creative forces within. - Al Lachman Born in 1936 in the Bronx, NY, Alan Lachman...

  • Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters) Italian Expressionist Painting on Canvas
    By Andrea Spinelli
    Located in Firenze, IT
The present work of art titled "Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters)" is part of a series of paintings that the artist composed in the 1980s and 1990s inspired by the observation of the urban reality of those years. The artist take the cue from his walks in Florence, both in the center and in the suburbs, and by the observation of billboards and posters scattered throughout the city. The mass of information, colors, messages and words were carried on the canvas with acrylic colors, ideally reconstructing the tears and overlaps of all the information and advertising contained on these huge sheets of paper that invade our cities. The geometric lines are overlaid with jagged lines, overlaps and color dripping and also the choice in the color palette, with different shades of white, gray, rose, orange red and blue helps in rendering the result of the tears and ripped paper. The result is a beautiful multicolored modern abstract canvas, both aesthetically and ethically, with many rich layers of color, texture and expression in which the artist leaves his own message. The painting is housed in a simple modern white lacquer wood frame. Andrea Spinelli...
