About the Item

Silver Birch magical forest. The painting was created mainly using a pallet knife with thick paint for texture. Part of my uplifting, vibrant, blue sky series. I enjoy creating paintings which are striking and have a magical element to them. I love the contrast of the orange and reds against the sky. Contemporary artist Sophia Chalklen is sold online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Sophia has always had a strong passion for Art ever since she was a child. Sophia studied at Winchester school of Art where she completed a BA specialising in Textile design. After achieving her BA she went on to become a Freelance Printed Textile designer for a small company in London. Shortly after that she managed to get a job as a Fine Jewellery Designer for the Crown Jewellers, Asprey and Garrard Bond St. Sophia became a specialist in designing high end Jewellery, accessories, and ornaments for English and Middle Eastern Royalty and the Elite. She also designed a great variety of items including rings, Jewellery Suites, watches, cufflinks, Jewel incrusted clocks, tiaras and precious ornaments. Her eye for detail leant well to her career in jewellery design and she became an expert in her field. Once she decided to start a family she went back to main her love of fine art, drawing and painting and started her own business running Art classes for all age groups. Running weekly classes teaching children aged 5-11 as well as running private group lessons for teenagers and adults. She also taught weekly, in care homes, which were really rewarding and beneficial to the mental health of the residents. Due to the Covid pandemic her classes were put on hold. During this time, she became quite sick and was unable to walk for about 6 months. She missed her walks in nature terribly and to help her mentally cope she decided to paint, and began to build up her own body of work as an Artist. Sophia's work took off and she has since become busy with regular commissions. She is inspired by nature and light and she likes to add 24ct Gold Leaf to her art which adds a touch of magic. She has now started selling a new line of uplifting, unique, nature inspired oil paintings. Like Art, nature is an amazing form of therapy and escapism. When she combined the two it made her truly happy. Sophia also enjoys painting wildlife animals and a percentage of the sales go to wildlife conservation. The best part of selling artwork for her is seeing the joy it brings to others especially when the subject holds a lot of meaning. I love painting abstract landscapes, using my techniques to put movement into the painting bringing it to life Wychwood Art comments " We love Lucy Moore's original meadow paintings. They are full of colour and energy at affordable prices" Additional information: Original Acrylic on canvas Image size: H:67 cm x W:90 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:67 cm x W:90 cm x D:1.9 cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look I have always enjoyed being creative but lacked the confidence to pursue a career as an artist, after many nudges from family and friends I decided to bite the bullet.I set out on my artists adventure in Feb 2014 I used my loft for a studio and spent every spare moment experimenting and creating. In Feb 2015 I signed up to several online galleries, every painting I sold boosted my confidence and I would spend hour daydreaming of becoming a full time artist. Since then I have come a long way and have been able to purchase my own studio, I now have a little sanctuary in my back garden. When I am not working as a part time book keeper, I can be found hidden away in my studio creating original artworks. I am inspired by the nature around me, from flourishing meadows to the crashing waves in the ocean, however I do like to add my own twist on things. I do love to work freely with abstract using colours and textures to guide me. For me Art is a necessity, I need to paint. The colours and images that swirl round my head daily I capture on canvas. I feel very privileged to have sold my work all over the world. My dream is to become a full time artist, With each painting I sell I take a step closer to achieving my goal. 13/08/2018 I took a leap of faith. Currently working as a full time artists. The Blue Hour
Located in New York, NY
Born in Corsica, Cecile van Hanja spent her childhood in France before moving to the Netherlands as a child. Inspired by Piet Mondrian, the De Stijl movement, as well as her newfound home in the Netherlands, van Hanja found her calling. By focusing on straight lines and the patterns found in architecture, van Hanja became interested in finding order in a time of chaos. Van Hanja creates a rhythmical pattern of vertical and horizontal lines in her observation of architecture. A multi-colored labyrinth of overlapping planes are created in order to emphasize the immaterial aspect of a building. In juggling the ideas of irrationality and intuition, van Hanja is able to build depth in her works by layering thin layers of acrylic and oil paint. The multiple layers result in the underlying colors to be visible, and allows the architectural composition to not be static. Van Hanja wishes to give space to the individual through unique and handmade work. In her paintings, she perceives the houses and buildings as metaphors for the state of mind. The absence of human presence, a quiet stillness, and an interest in light allows for a story to form. The clear walls and floors with reflections on the opposite walls don’t give any footing and the perspective lines and vanishing points, like rational benchmarks lead to an irrational and intuitive way of thinking. Cecile van Hanja graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 1993. She is currently based in Haarlem, the Netherlands, and her work is included in private collections in France, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Japan, and the United States. architecture, interior design, decoration, blue, linear, reflection, white, minimalism, cube, house, pool...
