About the Item

Rhythm of the Rain, Original Framed Blue Abstract Mixed Media Collage Painting 50x50x2 (HxWxD), Framed Mixed Media A peaceful color palette of blues and creams spill together in this square format work by artist Stacey Warnix. This piece is a strong example of her use of collage in her work to build up shapes and colors in layers that create a visible and literal texture. These additional layers are sandwiched between strokes of paint, allowing them to be fully integrated into the body of the work. Moments of raw linen peek through, which brings the viewer even closer to the materials at play. Artist Commentary: This painting is part of the artist’s Vignette Collection. Born of a desire to make productive usage of unused and surplus studio supplies, artworks in this collection feature loosely splayed, organically inspired arrays of gestural marks and brushstrokes combined with the intermittent layering of abandoned canvases and paper and fabric remnants from the artist’s studio. The dimensionally contrasting textured surfaces provide a subtle, sculptural effect. This artwork is sold with a white washed, solid wood floater frame and ships pre-wired and ready to hang. About The Artist: Stacey Warnix is an American lyrical abstraction painter who uses gestural methods to render large-scale, non-representational paintings over raw textile. Her paintings explore the experiential affect of nuanced color and scale, utilizing contrasting layers of disparate translucency and texture to subtly shift the perception, light reflectivity, and luminosity of nature-inspired color fields. Introduced to representational oil painting as a preschooler by an artist grandmother, Stacey created paintings and collages throughout her childhood, winning frequent awards, but she ultimately pursued a professional career in law and finance. In 2014, she left that career to dedicate more time to a home restoration business and started painting large scale abstract artworks for use in projects. Within weeks of posting a few paintings to social media, Stacey was invited to sell artworks in an upscale home décor boutique, and from that unplanned, very unintentional start, her art practice quickly grew. Preferring a vague composition that can be anything to anyone, Stacey experimented with gestural abstraction and became enamored with the process as a meditative escape. Today, Stacey paints mainly large-scale paintings incorporating a wide range of media over raw grounds. She paints to escape a world of precision, finding respite in abstract forms, textures, and tones.

Little Blue (Abstract Geometric Mixed Media Encaustic Work on Wooden Panel)
By Donise English
Located in Hudson, NY
Little Blue, 2020 Encaustic & collage on thin edged board 12" X 12" This abstract geometric composition on wooden board features a playful geometric motif that is inspired by the artist's interest in architecture and blueprint drawings. The geometric forms are made in a more painterly, gestural manner rather than with a hard edge. Paint is not heavily built up upon the surface but it certainly exhibits a tactile quality which is characteristic of the artist's aesthetic. English's work celebrates the quirky, unexpected qualities of shapes and colors. About the artist: Donise English is a Poughkeepsie-based artist who received her MFA from Bard College and is currently a Professor of Studio Art at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Artist Statement: I am interested in drawing and collaging multiple layers of information that refer abstractly to maps, architectural drawings and blueprints or patterns and structures found in such things as roller coasters, power lines and fences. I use gouache and collaged paper in a series of layers that are a visual and ideological response to the previous layer to define my pictorial space. For each piece I create a set of rules to follow about the use of a limited palette, a grid format, opacity of paper and whether a piece may include curving lines or maintain a rectilinear structure.
