Sszumiita (Abstract painting) Acrylic and color tape on canvas - Unframed. Philippe Halaburda is a French artist who has coined the term Geographic Abstraction to describe his work. Through his use of color and lines, Halaburda creates sharp imaginary landscapes that visualize the interconnectedness of humans and their environments. Since moving to New York City in 2016, Halaburda’s work has been influenced by the city’s linear urban environment. He describes his current work as geographic abstraction or psychogeographic mapping, and sees his designs as translating human and non-human interactions and emotions into colorful, imagined landscapes. His work evokes the geometric constructions of Russian avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich, and Halaburda has cited Piet Mondrian as an influence on his use of color. In 2019, Halaburda published his first art book entitled ‘Spatial representation of emotion’ about his work in New York since 2016. Textures and patterns play a large role in her minimal yet powerful work. // Andrea Stajan-Ferkul is a Canadian artist whose work conveys a sense of experimentation through the use of paint, fabric collage and abstract mark-making. While not exclusive to fashion, dresses have been a compositional focus throughout her oeuvre. With an emphasis on timelessness, her series of dress paintings shift between realistic representation and interpretive impressions. In contrast, her series of abstract works embrace minimalism, considerate to a restrained palette and composition. Stajan-Ferkul began her career in fashion advertising before shifting her focus to fine art in 2000. Her work has been exhibited widely through galleries and art fairs, and hangs in private and public collections across Canada, US and Europe. A graduate of Sheridan College of Art and Design, Andrea's paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections, her work has been published in magazines and book covers, and prints are distributed internationally.
