About the Item
Steven Rehfeld's captivating 60" x 60" mixed media painting presents an intriguing blend of contemporary, figurative, and landscape elements. Dominating the canvas, a monolithic, shimmering sphere serves as a focal point, capturing the ethereal essence of the painting. A group of figures congregates by the sphere, rendered with fluidity and grace, their pale forms juxtaposed against the muted undertones of the orb. The landscape, sprawling out beneath this assembly, is a tapestry of vibrant blues, rich earthen browns, and luminous ochres. The foreground offers a striking contrast, with intense, cascading waves of turquoise and cerulean, textured with abstract brushstrokes, suggesting tumultuous waters. The overall composition, while rooted in representational elements, leans heavily into the abstract, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in its depths and uncover layers of meaning. The usage of varying shades of blue, contrasting with warm earthy tones and the luminescent quality of the sphere, imbues the painting with a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere.
Steven H. Rehfeld is now one of the top emerging artists in the U.S. His works are groundbreaking, bold, and imbued with unflinching disregard for painting conventions. Many works are in collections and museums in the U.S.
Steven is also part of the 'Outsiders' school of art, originating in France in the 19th century. Also known as the Naïve movement, and was comprised of people with no art training at all, who suddenly started to paint. Many of them are from very challenging backgrounds. All they had was talent that had never before been tapped. In no time this movement became a significant art phenomenon and spread all over the world.
His work, however, has branched out past the movement and his use of earth elements renders a basic and raw interpretation of his message.
