About the Item
Steven H. Rehfeld (American, born 1954)
'Oasis,' 2014
Oil paint, canvas, stretcher bars
The piece is signed on the back of the canvas.
Steven Rehfeld's 60" x 60" creation captures the spirited dance of colors and forms, masterfully juxtaposing earthy tones with vibrant hues. The tapestry of gold, blue, and ethereal whites intermingles with bold, defining black lines, evoking a sense of orchestrated chaos. The contrasting elements - the soft curves against the angular blocks, the serene blues against the fiery oranges - mirror the complexities and layers often found in our own emotions and experiences. This work is a visual symphony, where every stroke, every shade tells a part of a larger story, inviting viewers to dive deep and explore its many facets.
About the Artist:
Introducing Steven H. Rehfeld, a distinctive force in contemporary art, whose innovative approach transcends the conventional boundaries of artistic creation. With a profound grasp on the foundational elements of art, Rehfeld's work is a testament to his unmatched prowess and his relentless pursuit of excellence in the art world.
Born in San Francisco, in October 1954, Steven H. Rehfeld embarked on his artistic journey influenced by the diverse cultural backdrop of the Bay Area. Educated at the College of San Mateo and the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he majored in Studio Art, Rehfeld refined his eclectic style, harmoniously blending abstract art with realism. Steven H. Rehfeld
Steven H. Rehfeld, a California artist, holds a B.A. in studio art from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He draws inspiration from the 'Outsiders' school of art that originated in 19th-century France, known as the Naïve movement. Also referred to as the Naïve or Primitive art movement, was comprised of artists with no formal art training who discovered their talent and began painting. Many of these artists came from challenging backgrounds, and their raw talent remained untapped until they expressed themselves through art. The movement quickly gained prominence and spread worldwide. Steven Rehfeld's artistic style has evolved beyond the Naïve movement, incorporating earth elements to create a basic and raw interpretation of his artistic message. Discover the exclusive collection of Steven H. Rehfeld's artwork at The American Art Gallery. Artist Statement "My oil, acrylic, and mixed media paintings explore the dynamic relationship between progressiveness and tradition, personal and cultural experiences, and the interplay between the human form and iconography. Through these explorations, I engage in a dialogue that reveals how the intangible influences the material world. Color contrast forms, negative/positive space, and visual kinetic energy shape these artistic relationships. Additionally, I fuse abstract art with elements of realism to create a unique artistic experience."
