About the Item

This 39" x 39" geometric abstract is an oil on canvas painting by contemporary artist, Susan Morrison-Dyke. The composition is defined by a careful arrangement of rectilinear and curvilinear forms on a modulated, textural ground dominated by a desaturated reddish-pink hue. The surface quality is notable for its visible brushwork and mottled layering, which lend a tactile materiality suggestive of impasto underpainting. At the upper left, an irregular white form—neither fully organic nor strictly geometric—floats within the composition. Beneath it, a light blue rectangle sits adjacent to an orange semicircle, forming a rhythmic interplay of color and shape. The upper-right quadrant houses a larger, softly brushed rectangle in pale green and below it, a large white field functions as negative space, anchoring the lower half of the canvas. Centered within this field is a downward-pointing triangular motif rendered in muted peach and in the bottom-left quadrant, a black rectangle is interrupted by evenly spaced horizontal pink lines. Toward the bottom right, a horizontal pale blue band lies just above a rose square. The restrained palette—comprising pale blue, rose, white, peach, and muted green—suggests an interest in harmony through tonal modulation. Susan Morrison-Dyke graduated with a BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University and received the James William Paige Traveling Scholarship, a prestigious 5th Year graduate program award. She was later awarded the Clarissa Bartlett Traveling Fellowship for Alumni at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Both awards allowed her to travel the world making a permanent impact on her work. Susan was highly visible in Boston’s explosive cutting-edge art scene where she was represented by Stux Gallery in both Boston and New York. She later moved to New York where she worked for Phyllis Kind Gallery and was represented by Richard Green Gallery in SOHO. She eventually relocated with her young family back to her hometown of Oklahoma City, staying 22 years before returning to The Fenway Studios to live and work in Boston. Her large-scale paintings have been featured at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Aldrich Museum, Danforth Museum, Provincetown Museum, Berkshire Museum, Brockton Museum, Harvard University, Tufts University and Boston College among many other galleries and universities throughout the country. Private and public art commissions include OKC’s Barons gift for Aubrey McClendon at Chesapeake Energy, Architectural Design Group’s (ADG) gift to St. Anthony Hospital, Special Care, Inc. Murals, Oklahoma City Police Headquarters Acquisition of Ballpark Murals Paintings, New York’s MTA Arts for Transit Subway Murals at Borough Hall Station in Brooklyn and The Bricktown Ballpark Murals for OKC’s Metropolitan Area Project (MAPs) Public Art Program. "My paintings currently explore abstract elements of vernacular imagery in American culture. These non-objective works attempt to reveal a sense of déjà vu derived from familiar motifs. Finding my inspiration in the sleek abstraction of mid-century modern design, the inventiveness of cubism and the authenticity of primitive and ancient art, I often rely on intuition and spontaneity to guide my artistic process."

Inspiration Geometric Abstraction
By Jaro
Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL
Inspiration 2021 Artist signed verso, oil on canvas 48x36 JARO was born in 1934 Prague the Czech Republic. Since his childhood, he enjoyed his art class at school the most. Almost every drawing and panting were on display in his classroom. During his college years, in Vienna Austria, studying to become mechanical engineer, he continued to study art. His technical drafting education became later a major factor and influence in his GEOMETRIC ABSTRACTION (Non-Objective) paintings. He immigrated in 1957 to the USA, New York , where he finished his first small oil painting. Since then JARO painted on and off, until he opened his own studio in 1965 on East 4th Street in the Village. Here he created a series of well designed palette knife paintings in the style of abstract expressionism. JARO stretched off shaped canvases, making him one of the first artists working with these unique shapes. At the time JARO owned his own studio, he studied at the Art Students League 57th Street, New York.  Later in 1969, he studied in Woodstock for several years with John Pike, one of the foremost watercolorists in America, as well as, with Robert Angeloch...
