About the Item

"Sylvia Martins is a Brazilian born painter and printmaker whose work often incorporates soft pastels and impressionistic brushstrokes to create luminescent, dreamy images varying in subject matter from flora to woodland creatures to jewelry. Martins is constantly exploring and pushing herself in her artistic practice. Her work is a fundamental function that dictates her life. She says that "rules don't exist in my universe." Martins attended the Art Students League in New York from 1979-83 as a student of Richard Pousette-Dart, from whom she learned the fundamental principle, "free yourself from the rules of space." Her work has been the subject of multiple international solo exhibitions at venues such as the Centro Cultural Correios in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Exhibit A in New York, the MOMA Contemporary in Fukuoka, Japan, and Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles. It has also been included in group shows at Special Projects in New York, Galeria Anita Schwartz in Rio de Janeiro, Swatch Kaleidoscope in Paris, France, and Athens, Greece, the Aspen Art Museum in Aspen, Colorado and Museu Nacional de Belas Artes in Saíµ Paulo, Brazil. Martins currently divides her time between New York and Rio de Janeiro." -Artspace

Paloma's Dance - Original Oil on Canvas Abstract Figurative Dancer Painting
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Mark Acetelli’s oil and mixed media paintings awaken the viewer’s sense of exploration and adventure; they demand a new discovery. His artworks exhibit a chemistry of complexity and spontaneity, a lyrical abstraction of frenzied marks, many of which previously lay hidden, buried beneath strong layers of self-taught expression. Those truths, first obscured and then obvious, aim to engage the viewer, allowing them to explore their own interpretation. His figurative abstract artworks are represented by Artspace Warehouse in Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including London, New York, and Hong Kong. This original oil painting on canvas measures 20 inches high by 16 inches wide. It is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted black and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork and titled on the back. Convenient local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included. Mark Acetelli was born in Detroit into an artistic household. Mark’s mother herself was a painter and some of his earliest memories were the smell of turpentine and oil paints. Growing up surrounded by his mother's work, she inspired and encouraged him to become an artist. Acetelli’s paintings are inspired by the intensely personal introspective journey of life, from the ever-changing complexities of love, loss, birth, and death. The context of his work he describes as, “Absence and Presence” pertaining to how someone or something can be physically gone, but the essence still remains. Capturing the physical mixed with spirituality on canvas. His application of paint is an extension of that thought process. He works by continuously building up and tearing down, layer upon layer, adding and subtracting. A visceral dance between the conscious and the unconscious until the emotion is expressed. Acetelli’s paintings may go through multiple incarnations with the past lying just beneath the surface, adding to its overall dimension and depth. In his work, Acetelli seeks to evoke a feeling rather than depict a defined image. He uses primarily oils and encaustics to create thickly layered canvases with emotive bursts of color. Creating a world where imagination and reality come together. Acetelli’s works can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world, including Bill Withers...
