About the Item

The series "Dissonance of Softness" consists of five paintings: "Soft Silence," "Soft Solitude," "Soft Maturity," "Soft Fragility," and "Soft Indecision." The word "softness" does not resolve the issue of human dissonance, where people so often seek meaning in spiritual growth. On the contrary, with the knowledge of adulthood, they stand at a crossroads in search of themselves. Is fragility just a word or a measure of internal tension? Does it change our personal self every day? Who determines the states of elasticity and plasticity of our fragility or creates the conditions for its destruction? Everyone reflects on these questions in their own way.We didn't imagine that a person could be so fragile today. Previously, such a person seemed to me to be majestic in the world, but it turned out to be so defenseless and small, especially when there is so much metal flying nearby, and she hears loud and unfamiliar sounds. What can she do to protect herself?Almost nothing. Sometimes, even if you do everything, it may not be enough. It's so easy to kill a person. To change their life in one second is to simply mutilate their physical body, to burn out their soul in one second. The worn-out story about the perishable body is not so worn-out anymore. This is one of my favorite series of works. Each painting complements the other. The series is like a joint conversation with other people. After purchasing the painting, I carefully pack it in transparent film to prevent moisture from entering. Then in foam plastic. On top is packaging cardboard.

The Other
By Judith Berry

The themes visited in this show stem from a desire to extend the vocabulary of my painting while forming a metaphor for the chaos of contemporary life. The title, Escalade, has differing and complimentary functions in English and French. Continuing to paint, over a lengthening career, the medium poses more questions than answers. The title is a reference to my attempt to overcome these difficulties through the expansion of my painting language. The title also refers to the escalation of crises in the world at large. It is the larger picture in which I am a small person trying to make my way. In a concrete sense, the title also refers to a strategy I have taken in a number of these paintings. That is, to re-examine very small paintings...
