About the Item

Contemporary abstract painting by Houston, TX artist Tra' Slaughter. The painting features a large, central amorphous red shape set against a deep green background. Signed, titled, and dated on the reverse. Unframed but framing options are available. Artist Statement: Over the course of his life, Tra` has come to the realization that his art is not a private conversation; rather art is a communal experience. As a result, he aims to create powerful and persuasive art with a social function, that challenges our understanding of the world in which we live and how we operate within it. As an artist, he is a reflector, translator, and mediator of societal issues, including racial and gender inequality, civil rights, globalization, environmental crisis, greed, and cultural and social identity. Tra` creates works that act as windows, providing insight and focus on complex subjects, while offering my unique interpretations, and raising difficult questions. His most recent body of work can be described as an Expressive Assemblage consisting of found materials with symbolic potency reborn to tell their stories in mixed media paintings and assemblage sculptures. Every piece he creates has numerous interwoven layers of stories and experiences that can only be seen by returning and looking even deeper. When the viewer seeks to understand the story behind a piece of his work, they begin to remember a forgotten history and their part in that history. His hope and ultimate goal as an artist is to inspire viewers to open their eyes to what is really happening in our world, so they in turn can find the valor and compassion to be a voice for the oppressed, discarded, and forgotten. “Too Late, Too Much” Contemporary Gestural Abstract Expressionist Painting
Located in Houston, TX
Contemporary green and peach toned gestural abstract expressionist painting by Houston based artist Kristi Haines Herman. The work features layers of swirling brushwork in tones of green, peach, and white. Signed, titled, and dated on the reverse. Currently unframed, but options are available. Artist Biography: As an abstract painter, Kristi Haines Herman, uses her artwork to execute ideas and two-dimensional environments that create an emotional experience for the viewer. Her paintings are inspired by personal involvements and reactions to them. Phrases and words ruminate in her mind and slowly turn into abstracted figures that convey her inner thoughts. Haines Herman is highly influenced by movement as her artistic expression due to many years in dance. Movement is depicted through various gestural lines, shapes, and texture which allow the audience to venture through the canvas; thus a visual dance from one edge to another on the painting’s surface. Ballet was Haines Herman’s first love in the art world, starting at age five. She learned to use body movement as an outward expression which allowed her to explore various audience reactions. This would later correlate with her artwork. In her late teens, dance and visual art would intertwine with time on stage as well as painting for expression. Gradually, visual art became her primary artistic avenue. Haines Herman attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, where she majored in studio art under professors Frank Hobbs...

It Is Right, It Should Be So, Abstract Expressionist Landscape
Located in Doylestown, PA
"It Is Right, It Should Be So" is a 44 x 56 inches, original, abstract landscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is a gallery wrapped canvas, signed "Lachman" in the lower right. The artist puts his thumb upon the pulse of life and records it. In that mystical beat lies the unknown, and he would but make it known. Being both, innovator and spectator, he exists as an intrinsic part of that rhythm. Each painting begins with a premise, and I rarely use the same one twice. It is based on what I see and what I am feeling at that moment. I do not think that painting is about technique. It is about a particular perception of the world around us. The premise creates the periphery of my intent. It is a limitation that gives birth to the creative forces within. - Al Lachman Born in 1936 in the Bronx, NY, Alan Lachman...
