About the Item
TUSET (1997, A Coruña) buries. He presents his latest series using patchwork, with paintings that have spent a year underground and leather. What emerges is an eroded map, a surface fragmented by time and weather. His works don't represent, they reveal themselves. Like the ruins of a city yet to be built. TUSET speaks to us about emotional urbanism, unconscious architecture, a territory that is more within than without.
This work is part of the exhibition "The Future Will Be Prehistoric" at the Manolo Eirin Gallery from June 20, 2025 to September 20, 2025.
The dimensions of the diptych work are 2 works of 40 x 35 x 4 cm each one. The frame is made of pine wood and is made in patchwork with leather stitching and cotton canvas impregnated with natural inks. The title of the work is "Fabric cut #1 & #2."
ABOUT THE ARTIST, TUSET (A Coruña, Spain)
In this exhibition, TUSET presents his latest series, in which he recovers canvases buried underground for a year, using a kind of patchwork combined with leather surfaces. The paintings become geometric cartographies, like maps of an unknown civilization. The leather lines resemble roads that expand beyond the canvas, invading the exhibition space and making their way. His work lies somewhere between material informalism and a kind of speculative urbanism. There are echoes of Alberto Burri and Ana Mendieta, both in the tactile and symbolic, and also of more recent practices such as those of Otobong Nkanga, who explores history and architecture as a living and fragmented body. The Coruña artist speaks to us of a sedimented future, of a territory not designed to be immediately understood.
