A brilliantly composed mid century abstract composition in oil, painted onto canvas and dated 1957.
This painting is an abstract composition with a cubist influence, constructed from overlapping geometric shapes in a horizontal layout.
The artist has used a palette of muted earth tones—including shades of blue, olive green, mustard yellow, grey, brown, and black—with occasional pops of more vibrant hues like cobalt blue and ochre.
The forms resemble architectural or industrial elements—possibly buildings, machinery, or a cityscape—but remain non-representational. Thick, impasto brushstrokes give the surface a textured, tactile quality. The shapes interlock and layer, creating depth and rhythm across the canvas. Angled lines and blocks suggest both movement and structure, while negative space in pale grey balances the denser elements.
