About the Item
"Myth of Sisyphus IV Cloudy Sky (It is not despair that urges him to death, but love...)" is an original contemporary painting by Georgia-based artist Vivian Liddell. This work is part of her new 2022 series titled "Myth of Sisyphus." As a multidisciplinary artist, Liddell brings a dynamic approach to her vivid, colorful two-dimensional pieces. This particular piece has a bold contrast between colorful forms and neon rocks in the foreground. Images are examples of similar works framed.
From the artist: "Gender and power are core concepts in my work. I’ve spent two decades in “The Classic City” (Athens, Georgia), surrounded by a dual Greek culture. Fraternities and sororities separate students by gender and play a part in cementing gender roles and power structures for the next generation; ubiquitous Classical architecture (often accompanied by manicured landscape) is a constant reminder of Western ideals.
After a career of painting the female figure and exploring themes related to the male gaze and the lingering inequalities that women face, I’ve focused the past five years on the male figure and his domain. My education was dominated by Western art history, where women were seen as muses; I’m reversing this traditional dynamic between the male artist/intellectual and his female subject.
I create tiny “plays” with handmade props and puppet plasticine figures to reenact imagined dramas that might happen on any given home game day. These sets become animations but also act as narrative anchors and maquettes for works in a variety of media. Even though my work relies on humor, I’m asking serious questions about how branding, everyday rituals, and consumerism play into established power dynamics.
These works accompany an animation in progress that addresses the Greek myth of Sisyphus. After witnessing some fraternity recruits carrying rocks up a hill during Rush Week, I was inspired to dive deeper into the mythology and have been playing with imagery that includes rocks and Greek columns as a way to continue exploring how gender, everyday rituals, and power structures are intertwined. The parenthetical titles in these works come from the "Myth of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus. His work addresses the idea that the artist, like Sisyphus, is a hero of the absurd."

Untitled Pink - Large Oversized Textural Abstract Energetic Artwork on Canvas
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This large textural abstract energetic artwork on canvas by Togolese artist Olympio is a unique mixed media painting with a raw and direct aesthetic, providing an unfiltered manifestation of the artist's soul. Its expressive brushstrokes and vibrant color palette and the incorporation of an additional piece of canvas to the surface add an extra dimension of texture and interest to this already captivating piece. Olympio's raw and direct approach to mixed media and collage on canvas creates a tactile experience that provides a captivating insight into the artist's creative vision. Bright, energetic marks encircle rough textures that are perfectly balanced by the peaceful compositions beneath, creating a sense of harmony and balance in this artwork.
Olympio’s art transforms walls into landscapes of color and form, creating an engaging focal point that elevates any room's aesthetic to a new level. The heavily textured layers in Olympio’s work create a tangible sense of depth, drawing the eye and enriching the space with a bold yet nuanced presence.
This large 72-inch high by 60-inch wide mixed media painting is signed by Olympio on the back of the canvas. The many layers in his work emphasize the texture and visceral nature of his canvases. The painting is wired and can be hung vertically or horizontally. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping is available. For the abstract artist Olympio, art is a dance of textures and colors, woven from an eclectic medley of canvas and textiles. Each stroke on his canvas is a nod to the classical ideals of modern abstraction, a harmonious blend of purpose and spontaneity. The linens and canvases he selects have borne witness to various conditions and interactions, embracing the imprints of their past experiences. Olympio meticulously stretches, glues, and layers these diverse fabrics together, infusing them with additional layers of acrylic paint, a fusion of careful craft and serendipitous revelation.
In Olympio's art, deliberate strokes mingle with accidental splashes, forming a mesmerizing canvas that speaks to the ethos of modernism's evolution. It's a reminder that the legends of yesteryears now manifest as a distinct style, a testament to their enduring influence. His mastery over the medium amplifies, imbuing each piece with a romantic essence carefully counterbalanced by his practiced modesty. The strokes, swirling and turbulent, are immersed in a rich, opulent application of paint, akin to an expansive honeysuckle-pink landscape or a brooding soot-gray abyss. Yet within this whirlwind of impressions, Olympio maintains a sense of purpose, an elusive process that surrenders control to the animated paint and sculptural fabrics.
Olympio possesses a rare duality, orchestrating the delicate balance between sensuality and subtlety within his creations. Navigating these opposing forces, he transcends distractions and attains the perfect pitch, crafting a visual symphony that resonates deeply.
Olympio was born into a large family of eight children in Lomé, Togo, West Africa. He began his creating art by using building scraps to make sculptures. By the time he was in high school, he started to experiment with mixed-media and collage. He later transitioned to acrylic and oil on canvas.
In 2001, Olympio left his home in Africa to live in Paris. Olympio moved to the United States in 2003 and has continued to paint. His work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, where in 2018 he was ranked one of the Top 10 Artists by Red Dot Miami. He was also recently interviewed for France 2, TV5Monde, and the BBC. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally.

On Silverlode Road - Oversized Large Abstract Figurative Original Artwork
By Jonas Fisch
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Swedish artist Jonas Fisch’s imagery is vibrantly buzzing with colorful commentary on society - past and present - morphed into figures, words, and shapes. His heavily layered canvases are the foundations of a new visual dialogue. Fisch paints with a jazz-like spontaneity, expressing personal emotions, commenting on contemporary society, and exploring old mythologies. Formulating a galaxy of the unknown, Fisch’s textural paintings flood the mind with possibility. His process is instinctive and organic, the paintings energetic and vibrant, emerging from his subconscious without judgment. They are constructed by feelings trying to find harmony. Endless figures, messages, layers, and symbols move in and out of focus as the eye explores his puzzle pieces with varied solutions.
Jonas Fisch created this large colorful 93-inch tall by 67-inch wide painting with mixed media. acrylic, and oil stick on canvas. This artwork is stretched and is ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the back of the painting. This artwork does not require framing. Free delivery is available for those in the local Los Angeles area, and affordable worldwide shipping is available for US and international art collectors. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with the artwork, ensuring that the piece is an authentic work of art from Jonas Fisch.
Born in a small fisherman's village in southern Sweden, contemporary artist Jonas Fisch discovered his love for drawing and painting at a young age and was inspired to pursue his passion by renowned artist and grandmother Ann-Marie Sjögren. Fisch reflects, “As a fundamentally introspective person, I have an explosive need to express and communicate my innermost rays, reflections, and shadows. The canvas, the brush, and the paint allow me to act out, throw up, confront, and examine those innermost feelings. Painting becomes my outlet. At a certain moment, each shape, stroke, and color suddenly takes over and the painting reveals itself. It becomes an expressive personal collaboration of art."
Fisch's artworks have been exhibited across the United States, Switzerland, and Hong Kong. His paintings can be found in private collections worldwide.
