About the Item
Ronald Zuurmond is a contemporary painter who makes semi-abstract landscapes and still lifes. In this genre he has built up a large oeuvre. The world around him is for him the starting point for painting. Plants, landscapes and still lifes are the starting point for a process where the paint sends him. "I paint until I remember and then the work begins". He uses not only paint but also other materials such as sand and pieces of fabric. Partly because of this, with the idiosyncrasy and boldness of the artist, we see paintings with a powerful, pasty paint layer. This paint skin does not come about in one go. By means of repeated sanding and painting, the various layers shine through to create the most beautiful color in which the most beautiful light has been preserved. The work is romantic because of the brown and green colors and the whimsical shapes. However, it never gets too sultry, always a clarity prevails that is mainly brought about by a strict, balanced composition.
