About the Item
In this painting, Through the Core, Yuliia Holovatiuk-Ungureanu continues her exploration of transformation through matter and perception, using her signature technique that combines cold wax, linseed oil, and non-conventional pigments. Here, she works with a single sindur pigment and two types of cold wax, creating a meditative dialogue between heat and calm, distance and intimacy. The sindur — a ritual substance associated with vitality and sacred feminine energy — fuses with the wax to form a textured, translucent surface that radiates quiet luminosity.
The composition embodies the meeting of inner elements — fire and air, focus and release, motion and stillness — echoing the natural balance within human emotion and spirit. Through the layering and gentle compression of materials, the painting becomes both an act of grounding and expansion, reflecting the inner movement of consciousness itself.
Exhibited at Untitled Art Fair, London, 2024, Through the Core forms part of Holovatiuk-Ungureanu’s ongoing Liberation series. Across her multidisciplinary practice — encompassing painting, sculpture, photography, and immersive installation — she transforms materials into vessels of perception, revealing how the physical can hold the spiritual.
