The various tools she uses, from paintbrushes to palette knives, create kaleidoscopic compositions that radiate the beauty of nature.
Working outdoors, Yvonne embraces the influence of weather on her art, allowing elements like ice and gales to shape the final painting. The creative process is physically demanding, involving an energetic dance around the canvas filled with raw emotion and passion.

Yvonne Coomber, born on August 1, 1964, is a prominent British contemporary artist known for her vibrant and emotive paintings inspired by nature. Growing up on a farm in Ireland, she developed a deep appreciation for the wilderness from an early age. Her educational journey led her to study Philosophy and Literature at Brighton University, followed by fine art training in Sussex.
Throughout her life, Coomber has nurtured her connection with nature, traveling extensively and living in various countries including Australia, Africa, and Europe. Currently residing in Devon, she has been working as a professional painter since 2000.
Coomber’s passion lies in advocating for wild spaces and flowers, recognizing their significance as symbols of beauty and love. She collaborates with organizations like Plantlife, a British conservation charity dedicated to preserving threatened wildflowers and plants. Additionally, she serves as a patron of The Eden Project, supporting initiatives aimed at restoring wild habitats, species, and biodiversity on a global scale.

Yvonne Coomber
Yvonne Comber is a British abstract Landscape Artist. Her paintings are her very personal response to the surroundings of her studio in a deeply beautiful and tranquil Devon valley. She was brought up on a farm and spent a large portion of her childhood in the Emerald Isle, her mother’s homeland and the simplicity and beauty of that landscape has shaped her beautiful colorful paintings. Her formal training resulted in a degree in philosophy and literature but her true desire was to paint. Yvonne has an uncomplicated view of the world which is why she relates to art-lovers and collectors both nationally and internationally. Yvonne recently featured on a BBC Countryfile episode exploring the beauty of meadows and said that, "My rainbow drenched paintings sing of wild tumbling hedgerows, tangled meadowlands, open moorlands and magical forests. They whisper of love. My intention is to transport the viewer to an effervescent place of happiness that is literally saturated in joy. The materials I use are extremely important. A mixture of oils, inks, glosses, glazes, fine glitter and gold leaf are applied in a multitude of layers. Washes are built up to form a work that is infused with color. Paint Brushes, sponges, rags, palette knives and fingers are all used to create the finished piece. The result is a kaleidoscopic jewel-like composition of rich pigments that prismatically opens up to reveal the radiance and beauty of nature."

When it comes to abstract painting, the creation date is important. At the height of Abstraction Expressionism, overlooked Academic Artist John Atherton created a wonderfully complex painting that embodies many of the characteristics of what was going on in Mid-Century American Art. The work is simultaneously abstract as it is representational. Like a Bento Box, it's divided into sections by dividers. On close inspection, each section stands on it's own as a beautiful mini-painting yet coalesces as part of the whole. From a distance, it is eye-pleasing, but as the view gets closer and closer, new structures and details gloriously reveal themselves. This is an important painting and not unlike the work of Joaquín Torres-García. It was done in the last year of the artist's life. Signed lower right. Canvas is relined. Framed size: 30 x 41.25. The work is best viewed with top gallery lights to bring out color.
Color will look different under different lighting conditions. Atherton exhibited at the famous Julien Levy Gallery in New York and his fine art is mainly associated with Magic Realism.
