Zae was born in Pasadena, California into a family of artists. His thoughts about his work:
"When I paint, I am searching for freedom. A feeling. A thought. Maybe a moment in time. I strive for the deconstruction of form. I feel that color is a study - as is life. I learn from every canvas and every brush stroke. The freedom to enjoy the journey without rush, care - or worry of making a mistake - is true freedom. Free is art!
