Three colorful pansies emerge from an abstract garden landscape. Part of artist Ziui Vance's series of abstract floral paintings in which she describes growth as a study of shape, time, and color. "Each painting reflects the recalibration needed to endure life's challenges," says Ziui. "Through this interpretation of life in an area, the transitions across colors take on a voice as its blossoms are no longer powerless against the challenges that cause them to grow."

About the Artist
Chinese artist Ziui Vance is a Michigan-based painter who works in both oil and acrylic paint. Through her artwork, Ziui strives to set up the relationship between the viewer and the artwork as one of a guest and host. Her paintings offer the viewer access into her own world of imagination. Growing up in a small secluded town in China, she used art as a means of exploration and escape and developed her practice from a young age. Her abstract work are reminiscent paintings by Mark Rothko, while her figurative work has similarities to Chinese contemporary artists Yue Minjun and Zhang Xiaogang. Ziui has a BA in design from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China and an MFA in art from University of Michigan. She is represented by UGallery.
