About the Item
“Longitude” is 40 x 60 x 2 inch oil painting on canvas by Alexandra Rozenman. You feel the space shifting through many horizon lines. A peaceful river landscape with a single boat on a green shore keeps the painting up like a pedestal while above it air moves in greens and blues leaving lines and shapes on the lands and mountains. White trees that make us think about birches reflect in deep waters. Light goes up and up and up and on the very top of the painting, we see two women sitting comfortably next to each other at the front of an open door. This vast landscape is just a room for them. Dark night with a full moon is outside. The title of this painting is "Longitude" it illustrates how close we can be even when we are far away once we understand each another. This painting is oil on canvas, initialed on the front and signed, titled and dated on the reverse. On the reverse, you also see one old crossed-out title. Thick 2.5 inch stretcher is painted grey on the sides.
Alexandra Rozenman immigrated to America from the Soviet Union in 1989. Russian, European and American myths of national destiny and private identity take on a utopian dimension as she absorbs and expresses the psychology of otherness as fundamental aspects of her own identity. She wants her art to be like a well-worn military wool blanket that gives you warmth, love, and history. The artist states: “Whatever degree of abstraction defines my thinking and visual self-identification it has all to do with the search for my own image in a great existential sea of sweeping change”. Rozenman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
