This artwork "Western Scene" c.1960, is an oil painting on canvas by noted Western artist Charles Damrow, 1916-1989. It is signed at the lower left corner by the artist. The canvas size is 24 x 36 inches, framed size is 31 x 43 inches. it is framed in a wooden gold leaf plein air style frame. It is in good condition, the canvas have some wrinkles due to age, please sea pictures #10 and #11 for more details. About the artist: He was born on 2/20/1916 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin He died on 12/11/89 in Oneida, Wisconsin He was the youngest of 15 children. He was a self-taught artist and was known for his talent in elementary school. Ran away out west at the age of 13. He loved horses, buffalo, Indian culture and the wild west. He was a Paratrooper in WWII Spent most of his life in western states. His largest painting is Crow Buffalo Hunters is 8' x 10;' Others are Cycle of Life a herd of Buffalo and the Hopi Home Dance depicting life on a reservation that he witnessed while living there and from memory. His self portrait places him eye to eye with a buffalo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Damrow, Cowboy artist and painter of western Cowboy and Indian subject matter, established friendships with Indians, cowboy artists and Indian Traders of the Southwest. He drifted between acclaim and obscurity and had associations and friendships with many notable westerners, including Olaf Wieghorst, Barry Goldwater, Peter McDonald and Bill McGee. His paintings are held in private collections, municipal buildings, and corporate collections. Noteworthy are two large 6'x9' canvases collected by Arizona's largest art patron, Bank President Walter Bimson. Damrow was born in 1916 of German decent, and was a cowboy his whole life. His artist skills remained strong throughout his early career, culminating in a horse accident in 1968. This event plus a decline in eyesight in his later years, confined his best works to the earlier period, although he painted industriously until his passing in the early 1980s.

About the artist: Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1856, Frank joseph Girardin began his art instruction in 1870 under Frank Noble and later Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. A semi-pro baseball player in Cincinnati, he was best known for his beautiful landscapes of both Indiana and California. An extremely active participant in the development of the Art Association of Richmond and original member of the local Sketch Club, he served on the Board of Directors of Art Association for several years. He was considered ranked next to the late John E. Bundy in talent and skill by the former Art Association Director, Mrs. Ella Bond Johnston. About the artist: Since his birth in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 19, 1921, Don Peters has continually expressed his multifaceted talents. While serving in the US Marine Corps. at the age of 19, Don received his first international recognition from combat sketches made between 1942 and 1945. Exhibited in the National Galleries of London and throughout the US. These sketches earned Don a scholarship from the National Newspaperman's Association, metaphysics, spiritual space, romantic realism and miniaturism. His preference for the rapidly drying medium of acrylic allows Don to achieve drama in his color placement. He began his career in Hollywood in 1953, where he worked with Walt Disney, M.G.M., Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Brow., Columbia and Filmation. In 1964, Don won the Venice Film Festival award for his screenplay, "The Soldier." Also, in 1966, Don received the Academy Award Nomination for the original screenplay and story "Naked Prey". 1971 Don was a background Artists on the film Journey Back to OZ aka Return to OZ.
