About

Edward. B. Herberte Edward Benjamin Herberte was an English sporting and animal painter from the last half of the 19th century. He mostly painted fox hunting scenes but for special commissions he painted horse fairs and horse racing subjects. This is one such example, a classic English horse fair where people from all over the local area would have gathered in an almost carnival atmosphere to trade horses and enjoy all things related to horses. Each of the many figures is painted with the utmost quality and skill, with many different stories being told throughout the scene. Look closly at the Circus on the left hand side and you will see a banner with rare animals upon it. As you scan the painting time and time again Im sure you will see different events happening...All which make this paintngs a stunning example of Victorian art This piece must have more than 100 figures in its composition and is of the finest quality. It is the rarest subject by the artist and is a super rare piece in terms of its subject. The painting is in excellent condition and is an oil on canvas, signed and dated 1889. The piece is framed in an antique English frame in gold leaf. This is a musuem quality painting.
