About the Item

Georges Henri FAUVEL Canvas Size: 17 x 21" (42.5cm x 52.5cm) Outside Frame Size: Born in 1890 in Havre (Seine-Maritime), France Painter of animals, especially hunting dogs- his breed of choice being Basset Griffen Vendeen (Grand). His works have been auctioned throughout Europe and the UK. Throughout his life he won much acclaim and a special medal of recognition at the beginning of his career. Fauvel was a friend of Eugene Pechaubes 1890-1967 which can be seen in their subject matter and also their soft use of colour. Neither men used strong lines or hard angles- and both chose a composition that drew from a traditional way of painting- leaning towards impressionism but without giving up any detail and definition of the subject. Publicly exhibited works include: “Chiens attendant le depart” (1904) and “Salles des gardes, chiens de Saint-Bernard,”(1909). Book illustrations include “Le peintre et l’animal” E. Hardouin-Fugier page 296.
