About the Item
A colorful contemporary dog painting of Scottish Terrier dogs with accompanying text from a book is an inspirational departure from the traditional illustrations found in British Rudyard Kipling's "Thy Servant a Dog", 1930. The book was the first ever narrated by a dog, i.e. Scottie. Inspired by her love of Scotties and old books, her stunning and amusing exhibition "Thy Servant a Dog; An Installation" was displayed at two museums; The Corcoran Gallery of Art in 1998 and a diptych at the Art Museum of the Americas in 1997 both in Washington DC. A painting from "Thy Servant a Dog" is in the permanent collection at Corcoran Gallery of Art. In this painting from the series, Toby, or “Dog with Frill” who accompanied an organ grinder or puppeteer through the alleys of London, may wear a tutu, but he is a skilled rat killer who brags about his record setting kills. For a time he comes to live with Boots and Slippers in the country and teaches them all manner of work which is fun. The acrylic and mixed media painting on paper is made with very durable materials. The work is unframed; framing services are available.
