Anthony Michael Autorino (American, 1937-2015) Untitled (Ballerina), c. 20th Century Oil on canvas 16 x 12 in. Framed: 19 1/2 x 15 1/2 in. Signed: Mu Torino Anthony Michael Autorino (American, b. September 29, 1937) is a New Jersey-born painter who sometimes signed his work as "Mu Torino." As a teenager, Autorino enrolled in the United States Air Force, which brought him to Paris where he first became interested in art. After returning to the United States in the early 1960s, Autorino decided to pursue painting professionally, dividing his time between upstate New York and New England. His love of the outdoors eventually led him to the Delaware Valley, where he set up a studio and gallery space, which was eventually was relocated to Lambertville, NJ, where it remained for more than two decades. In the 1980s, Autorino moved into a house in Bucks County, PA, previously owned by American Impressionist artist George Sotter. Largely self-taught, Autorino works mainly in oil, inspired by local painters, as well as the artists of the Hudson River School, and the New Hope School. He has had shows at the National Academy of Design in New York City, the Salmagundi Club, the Allied Artists, the American Watercolor Society, and the Philadelphia Sketch Club. He has received numerous awards and honors for his paintings, which are represented in private, institutional, and corporate collections around the world, including Merck Pharmaceutical, Home Life Insurance Co., Great Royal England Insurance Group, First Union Bank, Chittendon Bank, New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Co., University of Connecticut, National Academy of Design NYC, and the Presidential Palace, the Republic of Ivory Coast, Africa.
