Bernardino Detti (Pistoia, Italy, 1498 - 1572) Title: Face of Christ Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: without frame 41 x 32 cm - with frame 47 x 55.5 cm Antique box frame made of solid wood and walnut burl. Publications: unpublished The painting by Bernardino Detti (1498 - 1572) depicts the face of Jesus Christ, framed centrally in the composition and whose red tunic starts to be seen. The sweetly outlined face with the bipartite beard and the ringed hair falling over the shoulders recall the work of an artist of the elegant Tuscan Mannerism. The canvas, signed B. D. on the back, can therefore be considered a work of Bernardino Detti, a talented painter from Pistoia, a city in the Italian region of Tuscany. Appropriate comparisons can be made by juxtaposing this work with the Saint Roch painted by Detti and kept in the church of San Giovanni Fuorcivitas in Pistoia.
