On the mountain of Golgotha, in a tormented setting, the Gospel story of the Crucifixion of Jesus takes place. The scene, traversed by a crowd of onlookers, is tinged with dramatic tones and the figures, characterised by very unusual features, exude pathos and excitement. The work has been attributed by critics to Scipione Compagno, a valuable artist who worked in Naples in the 17th century.
