About the Item

A pair of original mixed media paintings by American contemporary artist Bruce Adams from the artist's technology series. "Sometime around 1981 I was at my mother-in-law’s house reading National Geographic, when I came across an article on the microchip. The chip was just beginning to make its mark on our everyday lives, but the average person didn’t yet own a computer, and few knew what a chip was, or had any familiarity with such terms as ram, bite, or bit. I was fascinated by the article, and all that it implied for our future." Bruce Adams is best known as a conceptually based figurative painter who references various (often historical) painting styles. In exploring the act of painting, Adams peels back the layers of meaning inherent in making and viewing art. Each painting is 36" (h) x 24" (w)

Having been nurtured by a Yoruba father who happens to be a twin was a major inspiration for creating this painting. In Yoruba culture, twins are considered a special blessing from God. They are mostly called ‘ibeji’ which means twins. In Yoruba society, twins are given special names, such as Taiwo (meaning “first to taste the world“) and Kehinde (meaning “second to taste the world”). It is mostly believed that twins have special privileges and are accompanied by several fortunes. About Artist Oluwatobiloba Amusan...
