About the Item
The Flood - Climate change or global warming and the
extreme weather conditions - destructive winds causing infernos,
devastating hurricanes and torrential rains contributing to massive
flooding were inspiration for
"The Flood." In this work, museum goers are oblivious to the churning
waters as the museum floors are slowly flooding; People go about their
business as if nothing is happening in our world. Artist Carole Garland
admits to the same head in the sand behavior. "Ring the bells that still
can ring."
Artist Carole Garland paints her cultured museum attendees rushing,
standing, gazing. The focal pint, the woman with the camera, is taking a
picture of the viewer. The child represents the next generation who will
inherit an environment even more dangerous and erratic than what we are
experiencing today.
This oil painting on a 24"x30" wood panel is wired for ease of hanging. The
natural wood sides, 1 1/2" deep, may serve as a frame.
Carole Garland graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois; studied
figure drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago and oil painting at the
University of the Americas, Mexico City. She has studied with numerous fine
artists, participated in workshops in San Miguel de Allende and St Tropez,
France. Her most recent "influencer" is former vice-president of the
California Art Club and fine artist and teacher, David Gallup.
She has exhibited in venues throughout Southern California and is in art
collections across the United States.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.
