About the Item
'Room Alone' is a masterfully painted oil on canvas, that features a young bespectacled semi-nude woman redlining on a pile of rocks at the interior of a formal room with heavy drapes that is fitted with a portrait of a Madonna and child. The contemporary female figure is wrapped in an electric cord that is attached to her body on one and — the other end of the cord is in the hand of the baby that is featured in the portrait. Framed in hand painted (by the artist) black wood moulding. The painting itself is 12 x 9 inches, while the outer dimension of the framing is 15 1/2 x 13 inches. Condition excellent. Artist signed, titled, dated Verso. Painted by Okada in 1998.Proudly presented by Andra Norris Gallery in Burlingame, CA.
Chikako Okada’s autobiographical oil paintings, bridge traditional realism with magical realism and surrealism. She is inspired by European Masters, Frida Khalo, and the American Surrealists. Okada uniquely addresses questions of the human condition through her meticulously detailed, and patterned paintings. They are mesmerizing, rich in symbolism, and reference power, vulnerability, sadness, longing, and desire. The images often feature young women, girls, and boys that are mysteriously posed, leaving their circumstances to the viewer's interpretation.
