Edmund Adler (Austrian) 1876-1965
Known for his naturalness in color and expression, the artist Edmund Adler was born in Vienna, Austria. He worked for a number of years in lithographs before spending the years 1892 to 1895 in Vienna as a student at the Graphic Research Lab. Beginning in 1896, Adler attended the Vienna Academy where, in 1903, he received the Kenyon Traveling Scholarship and decided upon a move to Mannersdorf to begin his career.
In 1914 the artist was taken as a prisoner of war with other Austrian painters and spent the entire First World War in Siberia. He later participated in exhibitions with other Austrian and Russian painters while also holding exhibits in Vienna, Dresden and Brunn.
Adler was an extremely versatile and capable artist whose abilities allowed him to paint portraits, still life, rural scenes of families and children, and landscapes of the Austrian countryside with much appeal. Great affection was lavished particularly upon his portrayal of children.
He received an appointment to Professorship at the Royal Academy in Vienna which he held for a number of years before his death.

Edmund Adler
Edmund Adler had been taught at the Viennese School of Art History (focus: lithography) from 1892 until 1896. Subsequently, he studied from 1896 until 1903 at the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts, where his teacher/instructor was Christian Griepenkerl, who was a follower of the so-said Viennese Ring Road style. Adler received the Rome Award by the academy, a fact which enabled him a one-year stay in the eternal city. Having returned to Austria, Adler moved with his family to Mannersdorf at Leitha Mountains in 1910. After the outbreak of the First World War, Adler was forced to go to war. He returned only in 1920, having been left in war captivity in Russia then. In the subsequent period, the painter dedicated himself solely to the fine arts and worked continuously until old age. Only half a year before he died, Adler put his brush away at the age of 88. He created especially portraits as well as children and youth scenes that convey an ideal world. The Edmund Adler Gallery was founded in 2006. It is situated in the castle of Mannersdorf, which presents the collection of Adler's works.

Hyde was born in Surrey in 1849 and spent a large amount of time in London during his youth. His father had been in the army but retired to live the life of a gentleman upon inheriting the family seat, Hyde End Manor in Berkshire. Hyde, however, would later inherit and sell the Manor.
As a young man, Hyde trained as an artist at the Royal Academy, London, and his subsequent career revealed striking artistic versatility. His subjects varied from the portrayal of real, dramatic events to comic characters commissioned by the card manufacturer Raphael Tuck.
Starting out as a 1st Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, Hyde moved on to begin his career as a war artist during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71, producing drawings for ‘The Graphic’, an illustrated weekly publication.
Hyde married Constance Mary Louise Felgate in 1876, but she died less than a year later. While he travelled extensively throughout his life after Constance’s, death Hyde purchased a villa in Capri where he met Rosina Ferrara, whom he used as a model, and John Singer Sargent, with whom he shared a studio.
