This piece is a unique, original gouache on paper by Erte, also known as Romain de Tirtoff. Erte was a vastly diverse artist who excelled in an array of fields including fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, costume and set design for film, theatre, opera, and interior decor. Erte designed over 200 covers for the popular magazine, Harper's Bazaar, as well as many others including Illustrated London News, Cosmopolitan, Ladies's Home Journal, and Vogue. This piece was created in 1957 as a set design for a cabaret show. It is from the private collection of Hélène Martini, the famed cabaret owner. Martini is best known for her involvement with the Parisian cabarets and owns 10 nightspots and cabarets all over the city like The Folies Bergère, The Folies Pigalle and Rasputin. Erté was such great friends with Martini that he left his entire collection to her after he passed. This piece is hand signed on the front and also bears the stamp, title and registration number, No. 15039, on the backside. This piece is unframed and measures 7.24 x 10.47 inches.
