Frédéric Blaimont
La rue

About the Item

Frédéric Blaimont is a witness of his time. A French painter, he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and at the École d'Art Graphique (Kunstgewerbeschule) in Basel, Switzerland in the early 1970s. He fled the student revolution of 1968 that was raging in Paris and to which he did not take sides because he was not politicized and only wanted to paint. Since he was 15 years old, he painted characters that are today the touch of his incomparable style. He worked for 30 years in advertising before devoting himself exclusively to his painting. He says he encountered a dilemma between advertising and painting, which are completely different disciplines and have distinct criteria. "My street is a theater, I wander around in my time trying to make visible these ordinary people that their banality makes universal." "Redefining canons of beauty, truth that makes them beautiful " "La rue" (The street) is a work inspired by the strolling population, in a hurry or coming out of the shops. These people who live daily in the repetition of gestures and actions that the artist has fun to represent simply and perfectly. The talent of the artist is no longer to be proven and he amuses himself with the codes by representing characters with deconstructed and/or abusive proportions. He chooses a mischievous title that immediately projects us into a context established and desired by the artist. What one notices at first glance when discovering Frederic Blaimont's painting is the banality of his subjects. He likes the flaws and imperfections in people, which makes them sympathetic, authentic and endearing. Something unusual happens, the loneliness of the characters is particularly present but also complicit in the staging. His painting is a mixture of benevolence and malice. Representation of a "Mr. and Mrs." everyone that he has fun to freeze in his paintings with colors sometimes eccentric or realistic but always and right. Frédéric Blaimont is a complete artist who is part of the New Art movement. Black American box frame.
