About the Item

⭐Haitian village Haitian art, often compared to Mexican muralism, is a figurative art drawing its inspiration from the major themes of popular life: history, mythology, or the everyday lives of ordinary people. However, this is where the comparison ends, as Haitian indigenist art has never served an edifying purpose. It is an art of small and medium individual formats (with the exception of a few murals and monuments from the 1948 Cité de l’Exposition) primarily intended for export, to North American collections via the Haitian Art Center, and from the 1960s onwards, to Europe and France. From this art, which nonetheless has ideological roots—expressing an affirmation and singularization of cultural identity—multiple schools emerged, all loyal to the so-called objectivity of "Haitian themes": scenes of rural life, markets, the Vodou pantheon and symbols, ritual objects or traditional instruments, landscapes, coastal scenes, dance, still lifes… A whole grammar took shape, increasingly sensitive to the demand for exoticism from an external clientele. ⭐Structural Analysis :⭐ A small, colorful, naive scene of a Haitian village. There is a verticality to the landscape, a verticality that shapes the perception of Latin American art, where the present and the past coincide to give flatness a fundamental role in the poetics of self-expression. The art of fragmentation, of explosions, and seemingly of disunion conceals, beneath its shards, the essence of Relation. The interstellar spaces, the anarchic geometry that bursts into fragments and splashes of red and yellow, compose or decompose inextricable architectures that manage to signify the absolute disorder of the world, the chaos-world perpetually in relation. ⭐Color Analysis :⭐ In terms of color, the painter played beautifully with complementary colors.
