Genevieve Hamel’s passions for design and nature have always been the driving forces behind her work, though they often seem to compete—until she begins drawing and painting. In her art, the precision and engineering demanded by design merge seamlessly with the peaceful simplicity of nature, creating a beautiful synergy. Through painting, Genevieve brings these forces together, expressing their harmony on simple materials like wood panels and oil paints.
She finds pure joy in being the author of the creative process, discovering inner peace, and sharing her modern interpretations of flowers, animals, and abstract landscapes with art lovers everywhere. "My passions for design & nature have always been the two driving forces in everything I do, but they constantly rival each other until I start drawing & painting. The opposite forces of design creation that demand precision and engineering with the peaceful and simple environment that nature provides to me have found their synergy, their common ground through painting. I love when the symbiosis of these two forces expresses itself with simple materials like wood panels & oil paints. It is a pure joy to be the author of the creation process, to find a sense of inner peace along the way, and to share my modern interpretation of flowers, animals & abstract landscapes with everyone who loves art! That’s what oil painting does to me! The energy and drive can be felt through the boldness of colors, the intensity of the brushstrokes, the heaviness of the palette knife layers, and the emotions through the softness of the backgrounds and the mysteriousness of the color composition. As no two days are alike so does my art! All my paintings leave some of the background exposed showing where it begins on the wood panel and letting rise to the surface a modern simplistic beauty through the layers. A balancing act between choosing how much to reveal versus how much to hide creating the 'perfectly imperfect'. My paintings are meant to evoke emotions and leave enough room for the new owner to complete their own story. His paintings bring much joy and pleasure to those who understand he has an obvious and underlying love of handling paint and observing his subject using techniques that take many years to acquire. Recently he has changed the view point for some of his paintings, to give them a bold contemporary look.
