About the Item
Grete Copony attended various art schools in Germany, such as with Moritz Heymann in Munich and the drawing and painting school of the Association of Berlin Women Artists, and the Budapest Art Academy for a few months. In 1917 she married the Germanist Richard Csaki (1886-1943). In 1935 she still had exhibitions at the Galerie Nierendorf in Berlin as well as in Bremen and Hamburg, but at an exhibition in Stuttgart she was then required to remove some of her works because they were considered "degenerate" and "Bolshevik". As a result, she did not exhibit any more works until the end of the war.
From 1954 onwards, she also spent regular periods in Greece and had a studio in Aegina. From 1962 she lived with her daughter in Berlin and had a solo exhibition there in 1984 in the Haus am Lützowplatz.
