About the Item
Horst Lesniewicz was a German Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1926 and known for his expressive and provocative painting style. ‘Steglitzer Anzeiger!’ was created in the form of a collage and shows a section of the newspaper “Steglitzer Anzeiger”, number 109, from the year 1940. The picture shows four people gathered in an abstract style around this newspaper, which thematises a social problem of the time. This work stands out in particular for its bright colours and the simplified faces created with quick brushstrokes that are in contrast with the newspaper. The artist thematises a theme of society, as he did throughout his work. It is a testimony of the artist himself and his thinking. The work is signed and monogrammed and has been titled and signed on the verso.
