Artist biography Hugues Claude Pissarro, also known professionally as Isaac Pomié, is the grandson of the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro and son of Paulémile Pissarro. Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine and enveloped in an artistic environment, he inevitably spent his childhood and youth with brushes in hand. Carrying on a family tradition established by Camille Pissarro, his father frequently took Hugues on painting excursions, accompanied by his numerous artist friends, and these proved formative for him. Initially taught by his father, Hugues first exhibited his work at the age of fourteen. He subsequently studied art in Paris at prestigious establishments such as Ecole du Musée du Louvre and, in particular, at Ecole Normale Supérieur, a unique French institution dedicated to the pursuit of achievement and excellence to which only the academic elite have access. It was inevitable that this educational background would lead him to become a professor of art for much of his professional life and in 1965 he accepted an official invitation to teach art in Monaco. Throughout his teaching career he was also a prolific artist exhibiting on several occasions in Paris and London, and like many of his family predecessors, the scope of his work and talent is wide-ranging; from engraver, lithographer, publisher and landscape painter to portraitist. He was even commissioned by the White House in 1959 to paint President Eisenhower. Hugues’ work has evolved through a variety of different styles and techniques – including abstract, avant-garde, minimalist and conceptual art. However, he is now perhaps best known for his Post-Impressionist-style works, known collectively as “Petit Claude, which have been exhibited throughout the world since 1985. At the end of 1989, Hugues began to develop a more contemporary style, known as “Grand Claude”, and he initially adopted the pseudonym Isaac Pomié to separate these works from his Impressionist work. These contemporary works are distinctive by the large canvasses, which have become his trademark, and the technique of applying colours with great speed straight from the tube to achieve a thick, robust texture. Further refinement is added by scraping away some of the paint once it dries, the end result having a remarkable effect. One of his artistic idiosyncrasies is to precede each painting by a small study executed in oil or in mixed media. Splitting his time between Ireland and Normandy, and working in self-imposed virtual solitude, the choice to stay within the confines of his own physical world has not precluded him from keeping abreast of events and developments in the world of art. Indeed, he is a valued and respected contributor to several art publications.

Hugues Claude Pissarro b.1935 French Dimanche au champ de course (Deauville) (Sunday at the Racetrack) Signed “H. Claude Pissarro” (lower left) Pastel on card French artist Hugues Claude Pissarro offers a unique perspective of the racetrack in Deauville in this exceptional pastel. The spectators are as much his subject as the sport in this artistic tribute to a leisurely Sunday at the tracks. Following the impressionist tradition of his father and grandfather before him, Pissarro infuses this pastel with dynamic light and vibrant colors. Entitled Dimanche au Champ de Course (Deauville), it showcases the artist's highly distinctive and sophisticated style. Hailing from a long lineage of painters, Pissarro's artistic talents were cultivated at an early age. He exhibited his first works at the young age of 14 and later studied in Paris at the École du Louvre and École Normale Supérieure. A 1959 White House commission to paint the portrait of President...

  • Beach in Numana Postimpressionist
    By Suzanne Eisendieck
    Located in Delray Beach, FL
Beach In Numana Suzanne Eisendieck was born at Holzraum Platz in Danzig (now Gdańsk in Poland) to German parents Karl Eisendick and Anna Eisendick. At the age of 12, Suzanne Eisendieck became one of the youngest pupils of the painter Fritz August Pfuhle. When she was 21, she went to study for three years at Berlin State Academy for Fine and Applied Arts, attending the class of Maximilian Klewer, and there took part in an exhibition with over 1400 objects displayed in a group collection. Only 9 were sold and 3 of these were her canvases. This successful show in Berlin enabled her later to travel to Paris where she took residence in a tiny attic of Latin Quarters near the Place St. Michel and started painting. It was a continuous financial struggle for Suzanne until one friend organized for Madame Zak to visit her small studio. She immediately purchased 6 of her paintings and put them in her gallery, Galerie Zak, at the Place Saint Germain des Près. There they were so much admired that she arranged for the first exhibition of Suzanne Eisendieck works. That was followed later by few others in the Leicester Galleries London. This was also the end of bitter hardship for young artist and the start of great success. Artistically her work was inspired by the French Impressionists and is in many private collections mostly in America. Majority of her drawings are rapid chalk or pen sketches...

Urbex is the English acronym for urban exploration and is an activity that consists of searching for and locating abandoned infrastructure with the goal of visiting, photographing and conveying its contents, with particular involvement of methodologies from geography, anthropology, sociology to cultural studies. Her works have been in the past approached to the works of Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1770), but in Gullotta's paintings the absence of color makes the spaces particularly ethereal, allowing them to be ideally lifted to new places and to new life. We often speak of a "brain drain," but in this case we are truly happy to be able to say that this is a "return," and an important one: an artist of international caliber who has decided to entrust her return to her homeland to Almach Art...
