This charming scene of four boys sitting on a bench having a conversation is typical of the sentimentalized portrayals of street urchins that John George Brown is known for. His paintings were reproduced widely as lithographs, making the artist one of the richest and most celebrated genre painter in turn-of-the-century America. Signed and Dated Lower Left EXHIBITED:'Annual Exhibition.' Philadelphia Society of Artists, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. February, 1883.
