I like to apply paint with real freedom and spontaneity to produce paintings that have energy and depth, exploring my passion for surface quality, colour, texture and tactility.” “My series of ‘Interior Spaces’ paintings have been very popular and are constantly evolving. As a starting point I use a found image or one of my own photographs, adding or removing elements as I feel necessary to enhance the composition. I then start to play with my materials, constantly adding and subtracting. I will often include abstract stencilling to add a sense of drama, and introduce rivets to add further interest. Bhagyanath received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (painting) from the College of Fine Arts, Triavandrum, in 1992. Following this, the artist went on to study at the Sarojini Naidu School of Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Communication in Hyderabad, where he received his Master’s degree in the same subject in 2006. Some of the solo exhibitions in which Bhagyanath’s works have been exhibited include 'Ventriloquism' at Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi, in 2010-2011; 'In Limbo' at Project 88, Mumbai, in 2009; exhibitions at Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi, in 2006; and Kannur in 2004. He has also taken part in several group exhibitions, some of which include 'A.
