High Summer an Original Painting by Rosemary Farrer. This is one of a new series of paintings I've been working on recently. Inspired by time spent drawing and making colour studies in a Piet Oudolf designed garden in Somerset. The colours and plant shapes were beautiful as well as the way they were planted in sinuous drifts and repeated through the space. A perfect evocation of high summer. Colour is my passion, it has the power to change your mood and to evoke memories and emotions. In the words of Georgia O'Keeffe 'I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn't say in any other way – things I had no words for. Rosemary paints in oils and also makes original prints. The prints are in no way copies of the paintings, they are conceived of, and made, as a response to the special and wonderful effects that can be achieved only through the various techniques of printmaking, whether it be the graphic, dynamic marks of a linocut, or the subtle tones and textures achievable in aquatint and etching. Design, composition and the use of colour are what excite her. She spends a lot of time drawing and painting outside, back in the studio, she will distil these ideas into strong graphic woodcuts, and linos or subtly textured etchings. Recent monotypes draw together the threads of her different media, with their graphic shapes and rich painterly colours. Consone II by Henry Walsh is an original acrylic painting on a 4cm deep canvas that features a supposed busy atmosphere of many people at leisure, but at the same time is sparse. The composition was inspired by images of segregation and connection in parks during lockdown. Henry Walsh’s work begin with snapshots of busy life and by a process of elimination, he refocus’ on the image and on the elements that encapsulate a sober thoughtfulness. Henry Walsh was born 1978 in Norwich, England and spent his childhood in the Suffolk countryside. Henry studied art at Ipswich College in Suffolk, and then Loughborough University in Leicestershire. In 2000 he moved to London to find work that would further his art career and help to maintain his painting. In Spring 2011 Henry and his family moved from London to the High Peak in Derbyshire. Henry is now a freelance artist & designer concentrating more time to his painting.
