Isabel Rock is a creator of contemporary fairy tales. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, her work is an explosion of strange occurrences while a surreal narrative takes the audience on a journey into the imagination.
In October 2023 Isabel won the Evelyn Williams Drawing Award at the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. Known as the UK’s most prestigious annual open exhibition for drawing; part of the prize is a solo show at Hastings Contemporary, scheduled for 2024.
Whilst Isabel always has a tale to tell for each of her images, you may or may not choose to go on the journey with her or you may indeed have a different story, one of your own that jumps off the page at you, that that you decide to follow.

Wheel of Fortune
Sometimes life is good and you are at the top, you feel that finally things are working out and that you deserve this success after many struggles. But just as you stride down the street with a spring in your step the wheel turns another click and you find yourself on the down again. Maybe you lost your wallet, made a mistake that cost you alot of money or your partner met someone more interesting. But do not fear, because the wheel of fortune is forever turning and soon you shall be at the top again like a king. Just make sure to enjoy it while you are there.
*Please note we are happy to ship this work rolled in an art tube. Whilst the work is on heavy duty art paper and mixed media, the artist is happy that the painting will be fine rolled in a tube. This is a more cost effective and environmentally sound method of shipping. Shipping via this method is free.
About Isabel Rock and her work:
Taking inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints and Indian miniature painting Rock has developed a unique collage technique that combines bold structures with large-scale woodblock prints and intricate detailing. The subject is a grand mixture of humour, drama, hidden morals, fanciful characters, modern culture, mythical beings and fantastical situations.
Rock creates a world that pulls you in and demands your attention. Quality of line is paramount, the drawings are created using a dipping pen and acrylic ink. An essential tool is a squirrel’s hair brush that gives incredible fine lines and was purchased on her travels in India.
Born in Hammersmith, London in 1981, Rock knew her destiny was to be an artist. Studying Fine Art Printmaking at The University of Brighton and graduating with First Class Honours in 2004 she went on to do a Masters Degree at The Royal College of Art in London, continuing her studies in printmaking and drawing, graduating in 2008.
Her first solo show at Bearspace Gallery in Deptford, London in April 2009 sold out and was the beginning of a career that continues to rise. Rock participated in the first ever India Art Fair represented by Art 1821...

Inez Storer first studied at the San Francisco College for Women, the San Francisco Art Institute and the University of California at Berkeley. She later earned a bachelor's degree at Dominican College in San Rafael and, in 1971, a graduate degree in at California State University in San Francisco.
From Inverness, California, north of San Francisco and working from a studio in Point Reyes, Inez Storer creates mixed-media narrative paintings, collages and assemblages in naive-sophisticated style, which she describes as Magic Realism: "I am a visual raconteur. I use paint to tell stories." Most of these stories are explorations of the human condition with characters who seem allegorically to be walking tightropes. She gets many ideas from her studio collection of old postcards, toys, photos and other random items that she often incorporates into her work. Inez Storer is also known for her prints and drawings.
Storer was born in Los Angeles to German parents who left that country in 1933 to avoid Hitler. Her father got a job in Hollywood with Billy Wilder as an art director, and her mother was an actress and dancer. Inez spent much time as a child on movie sets. She was raised a Catholic as her parents wanted no one to know her mother was Jewish and uses Catholic imagery in her work.
In 1974, she met Andrew Romanoff, a Russian artist who became her second husband. In this marriage, she became a part of Russian royalty because Andrew was the grand nephew of the Czar Nicholas II, Russia's last emperor...

"Nude Lady" Pencil on Paper 20" x 12" inch (1954) by Salah Abdel Kerim
Born in Fayoum to a big family of 5 brothers and sisters. In 1938 he meets the famous painter Hussein Bikar and he becomes his student in the Faculty of Arts in Qena. He remained much attached to his professor all through his life. In 1940 he meets Hussein Youssef Amin and the Group of Contemporary Art at the secondary school of Farouk First in Abasya district in Cairo when he was introduced to surrealism for the first time. In 1943 he becomes a student at the Faculty of Fine Arts and graduates with excellence and honors in 1947. In 1948 he becomes an assistant to the interior decoration section at the FFA. He is then sent to a mission in Paris in 1952 and he becomes a student to Paul Colin and A.Marie Cassandre for publicity and theatre design. He then moves to Rome in 1956 to study cinema design. In 1957 he received the international prize in painting from San Vito Romano, Italy, and obtains his Ph.D. from Centro Sperimental di Cinemato Grafia. Like the Westerns I grew up with, my own work is camouflaged in a veil of nostalgia. The figures in my work are often portrayed against a stark background. This forces the viewer to recognize the myth before the critique exposes itself. I work from observation and my imagination using watercolor and traditional printmaking methods. The figurative images I create are heavily researched.
